Places to visit in Ajmer:
Dargah Shariff: The Ajmer Sharif Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is the most frequently-visited pilgrimage point in Ajmer. India’s most prominent pilgrimage center which is visited by devotees of all faiths. The dargah is said to be the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The shrine is the site for a lot of pilgrims who come here to have their wishes fulfilled.
Taragarh Fort: The Taragarh Fort is perched on the Aravallis and overlooks the city. Often considered as the first hill fort of Asia, it is also known as the Fort of Ajmer. Built by King Ajaypal Chauhan, overlooking Ajmer, it has the reputation of being one of the oldest hill forts of the world. All the military activities during the Mughal Period used to happen at this site and later on it was utilized by the British as a sanatorium.
Buland Darwaza: One of the admirable examples of Islamic architecture, his semi-octagonal Darwaza stands tall, displaying the glory of Akbar’s reign. This gaint structure was built to celebrate the triumph of Akbar’s victory over Khandesh and Ahmednagar in 1576. Built out of red sandstone with a blend of marble, this magnificent gateway is elegantly carved, portraying exquisite craftsmanship and art.
Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpra: The oldest Sanskrti College was later turned into a mosque by a Mughal emperor. According to legend, construction in 1153 took only two-and-a-half days. Adhai Din ka Jhopra is a relic of an old mosque which was constructed with remains of Hindu and Jain temples.
Nasiyan Temple: Eastablish in 1865, this temple is located at Prithvi Raj Marg in Ajmer. Dedicated to Lord Adinath, the first Jain tirthankara, the temple is a two-storied structure. One part of the temple is the worship area comprising the idol of Lord Adinath, while the other forms a museum and includes a hall. Pushkar: Within it’s 3,200 sq.ft area, the hall is decorated with Belgium stain glass, and stain glasswork.
Anasagar Lake: Anasagar lake is an artificial lake located in the Ajmer city. It was built by Anaji tomar, the grandfather of Prithvi Raj Chauhan and is named after him. The scenic lake is adjoined by Daulat Bagh, another important tourist attraction in Ajmer.
Nareli Temple: Nareli is a famous Jain Temple of Digambar Jains in the suburban area of Ajmer. The temple is made of marble stone and is known for fulfilling wishes and bringing prosperity in life. The main temple has a huge idol of Guru Adinath Ji on the 1st floor with 24 miniature temples of other Tirthankar’s line up on the hills above.
Abkari Fort and Museum: Located in the middle of the city, the museum was known to be the residence of Prince Salīm, the son of the Emperor Akbar. This ffort was built in 1570 AD. Unlike other forts, the Akbar’s fort in Ajmer was not situated on any hill. This is the location from where Salim, as the Emperor Jahangir read out the farman permitting the British East India Company to trade with India.
